Big Update!
Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 4:11PM You may have noticed (and we apologize for it) the overall lack of updates via the website. We decided to do a bit of restructuring of the site, and get rid of some extra baggage. All blog and update entries (including for the SAE project) will be included in the main feed on the hompage, so no need to search for what you're looking for. The sidebar to the right is reserved for special events, such as tours and the car show.
Moving along though, we are very pleased with the development of the ASME Student Chapter in the Fall semester. We have a great core group of active members, and are continuing to recruit new people. We have achieved USGA gold status, and are built good relationships with the faculty and other engineering societies. The Sikorsky Tour was a success, as was the Car Show (see below for photos). The one area we would like to focus on is recruiting even more members, especially freshmen who may not be aware of what we do. Like the new UNH ASME Facebook Page here! Also, current UNH students please join our page on insideUNH/ChargerConnection. Click here! This is important as part of our USGA Gold Status, as well as for participation in the next e-board elections, which will likely be done via electronic ballot.
Moving along to the Supermileage project, as most members are aware, it is being run as a Senior Design Project. This is the key to avoiding the issues of past years, as proper engineering, planning, and testing are an absolute requirement, and the responsibility of the seniors leading the project. This doesn't mean that underclassmen have less of a role, in fact, the opposite is true. There are opportunities to help with solid modeling, driver systems, and safety systems. Also, manufacturing is starting to get in full swing, so there are opportunities for people of all class and skill levels to help out in the labs and machine shop. It's a fun, hands-on learning experience. There will be occasional SAE-related updates on this site, but smaller updates and work times will be communicated via email, as well as on our Facebook Page. Like the UNH Supermileage Team here!
It's a bit late, but I have a few photos from our 2nd Annual Car Show on my Flickr page. Click on the photos for full size, or to navigate to see the others.
I also have a set for photos related to the Supermileage Project.
As a senior who is not formally part of the ASME e-board this year (I am one of the Seniors leading SAE though), I am extremely impressed with the progress of this year's leadership, as well as the involvement of the members. I'll defnitiely continue to help out with the website, and I'll be back next year for the car show!
